FAQ

Traditional Scouting for Everyone

The current cost to register a new scout with the national Outdoor Service Guides (OSG) is $20 per year.

The group neckerchief, all patches, and supplies are an additional cost of $50 per year. This cost can be broken up into monthly dues of $10 until paid.

2020/2021 Financial Assistance/Scholarship: The Everybody Scouts Inititive may be used to waive the $20 registration fee.

Openings for new scouts varies throughout the year as existing scouts move up to a higher section. When sections are full we maintain a wait list for interested families. We also have an important caveat; Space is always found for the kids of new volunteer leaders. If you are faced with a full section, consider becoming an scout leader, and Rover scout. It’s super rewarding and a great example for your kids to see you scout alongside them.

Please see our program pages for uniform requirements based on section. Most uniform options can be bought at any clothing store! Official uniform supplies are available through our Quartermaster store.

The 13th Aguayaam Guan carries a supply of our own Group Neckerchiefs and Badges. Please contact the Group Scout Master for requests.

Meetings for youth groups are about twice a month. Mettings for Rovers are once a month. There are other group outings that may occur outside of these meetings, like day hikes, camp outs, and special events! If you have suggestions or would like to join the group as a leader please contact us!

Named after the very first scout camp on England’s Brownsea Island, BTC is the basic leader/Rover scout training for the Baden-Powell Service Association. When you attend a BTC weekend, you will come away with important information regarding what traditional scouting is all about, how to lead a scouting program, and how to keep youth in your charge safe. At the same time, BTC is a fun experience in its own right, and most participants can easily pass their Tenderfoot requirements and become an Invested Rovers by Sunday evening. Those wishing to dive into the Rover handbook and complete Investiture, and be signed off by the Group Scoutmaster or Rover Crew Leader, will be squired as a Rover Squire on Sunday.

All BPSA Leaders and Rovers should attend a BTC within their first year.

When forming this San Antonio chapter of scouts, we reached out to the American Indians in Texas at the Spanish Colonial Missions for guidance on a meaningful name, representative of the land and history of Yanaguana (San Antonio).
