Traditional Scouting for Everyone

Adult Scouts (18+)

Rovers are the senior branch of OSG scouting, intended for young men and women ages 18 and up who wish to remain uniformed members of a scout group, or who wish to join as adults to do some scouting that they may have enjoyed as kids, or that they may never have done at all before. As Robert Baden-Powell originally intended, there is no upper age limit, so anyone over the age of 17 may join.

Rovers are organized into self-governing Crews as part of an overall scout group. The Rover motto is simply “Service,” and it is put into practice both in the group and the community.

All OSG section leaders are required to be registered as Rovers to provide them with a more solid background in Scouting.

The Rovering program is based upon two key works by B-P: Scouting for Boys and Rovering to Success. All OSG Rovers should familiarize themselves with both works, as well as our own Rover Handbook.

Brownsea Training Camp

Brownsea Training Camp (BTC) is the Outdoor Service Guide’s (OSG) “basic training” for adult leaders and Rover Scouts; all leaders and adult Rover scouts should attend one during their first year.

During the amazing weekend camp experience (3 days 2 nights), you will experience each of the program’s four sections, leaving you better prepared to work within your OSG scout group and/or continue your advancement as a scout yourself. You will have ample opportunities to practice a number of scoutcraft skills and hopefully leave Brownsea with your Tenderfoot badge proudly in-hand (or sewn on). Best of all, you’ll have a chance to make new Scout friends and develop the kind of camaraderie that comes with camping together under the stars.
